More artistic thievery!

There has been another case of thievery in the art world. This time embroidery artist extraordinaire Jenny Hart has had her embroidery designs poorly imitated by a company called Urban Threads.

For more details on this story, and more pictures you can read about it HERE.

The message is pretty simple - support individual artists and not big companies cashing in and stealing other people's ideas. Boooo.

New book details

It feels like I've been trying to keep several plates spinning these last few weeks and some have blatantly fallen and broken! Not to worry! One of the things I've been working on are the last couple of loose ends for the new book I've put together. It's called 'Art by Tattooists: Beyond Flash' and will be hitting the shelves on 21st September, so still a while to wait and I've yet to see or hold a 'proper copy' so really looking forward to that. Have obviously seen all the spreads laid out, but it's never the same has holding the finished book. I'm super pleased with how it's all come together and all of the artwork in the book is really fantastico.

There are plans afoot to hold some kind of launch party and exhibition in London, to also coincide with the London Tattoo Convention but we'll see how things pan out and will post definite plans as they are made.

I thought I'd reveal on here first the full list of contributing artwork and the cover art which is from a gorgeous painting by Gillian Goldstein:

Learning to Knit

I've been knitting on and off since I was a kid but it's only fairly recently that I've been knitting more 'seriously'. I've made quite a few things lately and have been enjoying learning new stitches and different types of knitting. I'm not particularly fast at knitting, so this funny little animation by Max Alexander made me chuckle:

More knitting related animation

Just came across this on indiecraftdocumentary.blogspot.com

It's a wonderful knitted animation made for a music video. Apparently it was made using more than 700 real knitted works. It's amazing!

Art Shows

I'm always being sent info for upcoming shows happening all around the globe but don't always get chance to blog about them and rarely get to see them for myself. I thought I'd put up the latest show eflyers I've received to help spread the word as well as news of some not-to-be missed shows ending soon in London. First up a flyer from the Together Gallery in Portland, OR. Flyer by Nigel Peake at a guess. Click Continue Reading below to see the rest.
