Lost/Found childhood book
I'd been searching for a long lost childhood book with no joy, on and off for a few years. Finally, after nearly giving up I managed to get hold of a copy. All I knew was that it was a character called Gully, who was a humanised dog who lived with his family and had a friend called 'Pet', and in one book he made some biscuits. It had been one of my favourite books as a child.
There is practically no mention of these books on the whole of the internet and at the time I didn't know author names or the proper title. Happily, thanks to Amazon's New and Used I eventually found Gully's Biscuits by Gwen Marsh and Jan Brychta and was reunited with my old pal Gully. Even though I hadn't seen this book for close to 30 years, it was really familiar and there were details I could remember vividly. It's also spooky how much this book had subconsciously influenced my own doodling styles. My sketchbook is full of silly, sketchy drawings of humanised dogs (as well as other animals), often with hats that could easily be one of the 'Baskerville Hounds'! Quite amazing really how much I was taking in when having these books read to me. Click 'continue reading' below to see more pages from the book.
