Dadara and The Pink Tank

tankontarget-1.jpg
After the Pink Tank exploded, Dadara disappeared. Modart found him in a bar and we emptied the bottle on his last deployment. Interview by Harlan Levey and Images courtesy of thehospages

Is it true that the Pink Tank was part of a military operation?

It was an underground art operation.

What was the strategy in constructing a four barreled tank?

To give it four times the power over a conventional tank.

Only after
spending all the money and energy
did we discover the four directions actually made it impossible for the
tank to move...

Luckily development costs were nowhere near the costs of the war in
Iraq, so we didn't go bankrupt
and we learned some valuable lessons.

What was the tank’s mission in Amsterdam?

To guard over the city and watch in a big brotherly way over all that
was happening and report back.

What sort of music was played in the tank?

Amsterdam based producers van Meeteren and Hyde composed a special
"Love, Peace and Terror" song for the tank.

Do you think this could have had to do with its suicide?

I should play the track backwards and listen if there's any hidden
satanic messages in there, to give you an answer on that one

.

Was it actually a suicide? I keep saying that, but actually, wait, you must be a
 fucking terrorist.

I am only the spokesperson. If the tank blew itself up, acted on orders
or was blown up by someone else is confidential information.

What happened to the tank once it only existed as mastered images?

It appeared on a DVD, in a videoclip, spread itself around the
worldwideweb , appeared in several magazines and on paintings.

Is it still the same tank?

The icon of the tank in its afterlife will slowly replace the original
tank and they will merge.

Is this second life on screen more productive then its actual time on
earth?

Actual time on earth was only a few weeks. It was built with its second
life clearly in mind, so in a way
second life maybe still is first life......

So, uhm, I’m not really for war, but I do have this sort of edged militant
streak, are you maybe looking for, how are they called in art again, erm, assistants? Got another attack in
development?

There are rumours of a mission on the North Pole. I won't comment
officially on these rumours, but if anyone
out there has a bag full of money left in a cupboard to make an artist’s
dream come true, then the planned mission
can go ahead.............
>

What was the Greyman’s relationship to this mission?

Of course he tried his utter best to sabotage the whole operation, but
due to the fact that only pigeons
and other old fashioned media were used for communication he only
discovered the tank once it was already
guarding society high up on the roof. Perfect timing was having the
tank up on the Friday before the weekend before New Years Eve, thus
making it virtually impossible for Greyman’s scheduled life to get a meeting together to have it removed.

Rumor has it that after the tank blew up you turned your back on
society to
build and bartend at a rather simple joint with a 2 person capacity.
What made
 you turn to the bottle?

Yes I did build a small bar (1,20 x 1,60 metres), which popped up
unexpectedly in several places
and was the bartender. It was the first job of my life. I felt I should have a connection again with society.
The financial turnover of handing out free drinks was marginal though,
so I went back to my previous life as an artist.
But for a while I will be painting instead of doing big projects. Stay
tuned!
