EXPLICIT LYRICS - Victor Castillo
Sometimes it takes the right aesthetic to make us realize just how twisted we all really are. It's not all candy corn and fairy tales, sometimes little red riding hood is the one holding the knife and the wolf is really a helpless grandmother. Victor Castillo has made it his life's work to analyze and please with his dark yet humorous paintings. Next week he will be opening a solo show at the Iguapop Gallery in Barcelona, read on to find out details.
In EXPLICIT LYRICS the artist Victor Castillo closes a chapter in his work, deepens his discourse, and simultaneously begins a new period in his creative and pictorial investigation.
With his recognizable, imaginative and unique creative language, inspired by cartoons and the mediated reality of the world we live in, he continues to study themes such as childhood, youth, violence, war, religion, consumption, and the media with irony and dark humor.
The exhibit will consist of a series of paintings, a series of old prints and an installation. The title of the show pays homage to music and its contant presence as a backdrop and source of inspiration in his work.
The finissage of the show will also serve as a chance to present his new book EXPLICIT LYRICS – VICTOR CASTILLO, which will be a compilation and look back at the last few years of his artistic development.
