Os Gemeos expo, Sittard

"The flowers in this garden were planted by my grandparents" is Brazilian twin brothers Os Gemeos' first solo exhibition in the Netherlands. Otavio and Gustavo are best known for their huge murals on the streets, but this exhibition shows a threedimensional installation in which all the pieces of their fascinating art puzzle fall together...

Coming from the São Paulo graffiti scene, Os Gemeos have spread their very colourful and playful universe for years now. The huge characters they paint in the streets are influenced by Brazilian fairy tales, their family history and political issues and look simply mesmerizing. For the installation in museum Het Domein (Sittard, the Netherlands), the twins used loads of waste materials like pieces of wood, doors and musical instruments that they painted on. With those, they assembled huge objects and surroundings that create a homely and colourful whole. Working on location is also an important element in the work of Os Gemeos - their art is created in conversation with the place they're working at, they paint portraits of the people they pass by and meet, which makes every exhibition very personal. This combined with the fact that the artists actually use garbage and turn it into something valuable makes their figurative wall sculptures and installations kind of bring together dreams and reality. The visitors are invited to fantasize about what they see and discover every little detail themselves...
Exhibition running until January 6, 2008 at Het Domein, Kapittelstraat 6, 6130 AA Sittard, the Netherlands.
