META

meta_bruno1.jpg
Bruno 9li has returned to Anna Domini Gallery in San Jose, California to wow the crowd with his amazingly detailed psychedelic and animalistic imagery. The show, titled META, opened this past friday but will be on through September 20. Bruno 9li's work blew me away the first time I got to paint with him and see his work in person. I can guarantee you if you're able to make it to this you will not be disappointed.

listerwk_elmslester.jpg
Elms Lester Gallery has been doing their thing for a long time now and certainly know how to do it well. So I was a bit surprised and also curious to hear they are about to put on one of the most unexpected two man shows I can think of: Anthony Lister and WK Interact. Two artists who seem worlds apart are coming together to make what we imagine will be a really impressive show.

No New Enemies Hits the Streets of Brussels

morcky_4.jpg
NNE was back at it last week. After a whirlwind trip to London and Coxheath, they welcomed Morcky Almost Troubles to Brussels for a commission from a local youth center. One neighbor appeared saying he would tag it all black by morning, but when his kids chimed into the growing voice of excited passerby's, he said his only wish was for a bit of green. You can't always get what you want mate, but the wall is there. Feel free.

TRANSFER and Beautiful Losers in Porto Alegre

santander_cultural_TRANSFER.jpg
All eyes have been on Brazil's street art scene for year now and there's no question about the heaps of talent pouring out of the country. While it's probably not the water that's helping breed these incredible artists it is obvious there's something going on down there. But without taking a closer look you might be mistaken in thinking that Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro are the only centers of urban art and culture in the country (obviously not true). I'm happy to present to you here a look at one of the largest Street Art and Street Culture exhibition to ever be presented in the southern city of Porto Alegre or anywhere in Brazil for that matter. Until September 28th Santander Cultural will be hosting TRANSFER, a show made up of four sections: the infamous Beautiful Losers show, old and new works from the finest Brazilian underground graphic artists, photograpic pieces of work by Os Gemeos, Nunca, Onesto and plenty more street artists, and to top it off new work from some of those named above and the soon-to-be-superstar Brazilian artists such as Bruno 9li, Carlos Dias, and Titi Freak who have all taken a slice of influence from their urban upbringings and their take on Brazilian aesthetics. And the icing on the cake... there's a fully functioning skatepark built right in the middle of the madness.

Shan Jiang in Antwerp

shanjiang1.jpg

Just after the Olympics in Beijing, Avenue will be showing another aspect of Chinese culture: the graphic tradition that the land has been known for since ages. The young and talented illustrative artist Shan Jiang draws sensitive lines and combines these in strong compositions he colours in digitally. The modern elements and urban landscapes the artist uses in his illustrations are populated by immensely detailed and sometimes manga-inspired characters, people and animals in a breathtaking combination of lines, forms and colours.
