Balkan Art Fluxion Exhibition

No New Enemies is always on the move. This time helping set up the massively acclaimed BAF in Amsterdam. Who said the Balkans were bare? The Balkan region is no stranger to conflict and difficult times, and haven't we said before that from the ashes may rise creative phoenixes? Well the BAF exhibition in Amsterdam will give you the chance to judge for yourself. It'll be open from the 10-26th of October. Check out more info.
"What does it take to be a cultural manager in Serbia?
A bit of enthusiasm, immense improvisational skills, masochism, ultimately flexible working hours (preferably 24/7), thick nerves as sailing ropes, a vision(s), lot of “cousins”, an optimistic and at the same time a pessimistic view of the world -cause you never know which one is needed - to be almost broke so people don’t think you are “fobbing and mugging something”, being fluent in Serbian, capable to listen more then to talk cause if you talk too much no one is taking you seriously.
Learning all the moods, rules, political colors, official and unofficial bureaucracy procedures, names and positions of vast government structures – which are changing each year lately - is something we swallow without chewing, cause time is relative in the Balkans and if you stop working the whole world can stop turnning too, and that’s dangerous.
BAF! Exhibition was initiated by Rekult and NoNewEnemies in the context of the Balkan Snapshot Film Festival. Me on the other side presenting AUROPOLIS, a rather underground artistic association with the biggest amount of postgraduate diplomas, couldn’t think of a better fun then to join the action. What I chose to put on in Veemvloer gallery in Amsterdam for three weeks it’s a tiny bit of self-production by new generation from Serbia and Croatia. Perhaps it shows too many different medias dealing with different subjects, but it appears that wide cultural public beyond the borders of our region forgot that we exist and that hunger for diverse art from Balkans is rather in the focus.
So sit on the tram no. 3 and go to Veemvloer! You’ll meet talkative, skillful, sensible, critical, responsible, urban, expressive, mature art of young Balkans who look totally comfortable being shown in European art scene!" (text by Manja Ristić)
