Book Club: Tom Gauld

Tom Gauld’s penmanship has been intruiging me for years. I’m a devoted fan of his detailed work, the clear lines he draws, the intricate texture in his shadows and objects, his witty and dry British humour since the day I stumbled upon it.

So when he comes up with a story about two cavemen discussing arts and going to the pub to have a pint instead of grunting and clobbering their women to haul them into caves, the contrast between historical facts and the way Gauld depicts the situation is just hilarious and very to-the-point. Imagine these prehistorical creatures, having a modern day conversation about being misunderstood as an artist and meeting their hunting quotas, drawn in simple forms that are still telling the tale of a friendship between two regular joes, no matter what century they live in.
This booklet is great story-telling for anyone who knows how to and likes to laugh, a must-have and also an excellent gift - at this price, I’ll buy 3 just for the fun of it.
