"Gifts We Wouldn't Steal": The Art of Printmaking pt. 1

These past few years as we've seen the pricetags of works by "street artists" explode we've also seen a lot of artists team up with print houses as well as venture out solo into the world of screenprints, giclee prints, and other printed series with some great and affordable results. Here is the first of our heads-up guide directing you to where to get some of the finest quality ink on paper from some our favorite artists.

Pictures on Walls - They have been doing their thing out of London for quite a few years now and have been some of the frontmen of the street art print movement. They constantly bring solid quality, an un-paralleled list of artists (Banksy, Space Invader, Faile, Jamie Hewlett, and so many more), and at a good price compared to what their prints end up going for on eBay. check out what they have to offer nowadays at www.picturesonwalls.com

Art-El - Taking their name from a group of Russian art students from the 1860's who ended up burning down their school (with good reason of course) this London-based online gallery and art dealership has brought together a very interesting mix of artists and offering both one-offs and prints from talents including Dr. D, Will Barras, Mr. Jago, Dan Kitchener and more. Take a look at their current offerings at www.art-el.co.uk not to mention 10% of their annual profits go to local charities, so feel good about it too.

Little Scratch Prints - Little Scratch, as in scratching on a wall, or actually the original definition of the italian "graffito." They truly believe in the transition that graffiti has taken from the trains, to the walls, to the galleries, to our homes and even away from being graffiti. Shouldn't we recognize at this point it's all just art and artists? These folks are bringing ecologically friendly and very high quality prints to us from artists like Faith 47, Jace, Alex Fakso, Lichtfaktor, and plenty more who may have had their start in the graffiti game but have gone on to take it much further than that. check out all the little scratches at www.littlescratch.com
