Meet Yisa

Back in December while helping to set up the BAC! Contemporary Art Festival in Barcelona I met a Chilean artist named Yisa. The work in general in the show was a wide spectrum of all sorts of contemporary art styles, there were artists young and old, and from all over the world. There was quite a bit of uninteresting and uninspired work (ok it was crap) but it only made the rest stand out even more. And Yisa's mural (see above) certainly stood out. He just wrote to us to give us a little more background on himself and his work.
Translated from Spanish (below):
" My name is YISA, I'm a Chilean painter who defines himself as a South American artist more than a Chilean one. I dedicate my time and my life to painting and I enjoy working in the studio as much as on the streets. Although the work I do indoors and the work i do outdoors are obviously different they are also very similar and hold a symbiotic relationship.
My work deals with the exploration of globalization from my Chilean point of view. Using a semiotic language my work crosses borders and languages as the symbols are recognizable and part of our global knowledge and interpretations.
There is a strong interest in themes of sex, religion, recent political conflict that exist in this globalized world that little by little leads us to lose our identity. Although I possess a Latin American point of view when creating the discourse there is no necessity to be Latin American in order to understand it. In short I am an artist whose work is based in where I am from but with the intention that it can be interpreted, analyzed, and observed at a global level."
