This interesting project takes a look at the significance of the boombox in our culture.
They are calling for essays about what the boombox era means to you. They are looking for a memory, a story, a one liner. Just about whatever you got.

Swedish Artist Marc Stromberg started his Tarelugnt project about a year ago with the aim to bring each issue out using a new medium. The first was a sort of standard paper spread, the second was an expansive pink poster and for the third … he tattooed an entire issue onto his leg.

Originally from the UK Boxi has been living in Germany for the past 10 years and has been honing his exacto skills ever-since. He has an unbelievable eye for detail and a grasp of grey unlike most. Carmichael Gallery will be presenting his first US solo show, 'Grey Area,' this Thursday, April 9th in their continual efforts to enlighten LA’s art crowd with a wide range of artists (mostly dragged off the streets) who the Los Angelers probably have never heard of before. Judging from what we saw of Boxi in Miami this past December this show will have some unbelievable stencil pieces and more.

When Kenor paints it's pure mathematics, energy + emotion = painting. It's actually more like a formula for beautiful chaos. For years he's brought his own style of color, lines, shapes, abstraction, and life to the streets of Barcelona. This Thursday, April 16th he'll be opening his newest solo show, titled ArtKENORtures (pronounced sort of like Architectures I think). There will be a lottery for some of the work at the opening along with live painting and the man himself on the turntables.

Logan Hicks recently sent out a long and insightful newsletter. He gave us news of his upcoming show in NYC on May 1st (in collaboration with Broken Crow), his feelings about the art world, his first book being released, that he's looking for an intern (in the NYC area only), wants models for photographs, and is always looking to sneak around in abandoned places. It's a lot to ingest and a lot to look forward to so first things first we'll focus on his new book titled "New Arrivals and Departures." Make sure to check on his website for more info or to contact him about any of the other topics.

We just received an article from Fernanda Cohen about the new 99% Conference in New York City inspired by the TED Conference. It was a meeting and conference of 'big-time do-ers' including Scott Thomas, part of Obama's campaign design team, Ji Lee, creative director at Google, Threadless founders, Jake Nickell and Jeff Kalmikoff, and many more speakers. Although it might not seem directly linked to much of the artwork we show here the ideas are important and we think you'll enjoy reading this.

We're pleased to let you know about Logan Hicks and Broken Crow's new 3-day-only show popping up in Brooklyn. The show, titled Brokenhorse, will open on May 1st and only stay open until May 3rd. The location will be a former savings and loan bank. Art taking over failed financial institutions, sounds so fitting. This will actually be Logan's first proper show in NYC since he moved there two years ago and we just wish we could be there ourselves to see it, it's sure to be sick.

Sam Flores has been busy working on a major solo show opening this Saturday, May 2nd at Shepard Fairey's gallery, Subliminal Projects. The show, titled 'Ego, Addiciton, and Other Bedtime Stories,' will focus on the ultimate contrast of dark and light in many forms. In his own words, "There is a constant war being waged in the fight for balance,” says Flores, “to determine which side of us, good or bad, will win out in any given moment.” Ripo is also working on a full interview with Flores in order to learn more about him as an artist, this current body of work, a bit of thought on 'commerce as art and art as commerce,' and of course travel. Check back soon for the full Sam Flores Interview.

With the housing crisis going on, the economic meltdown, and the fear that is in the air it seems to some people that we're all going to be living in cardboard boxes pretty soon. These tough times inspired "Boxed In," a collaborative show between Factory Fresh in Brooklyn and Plaztik Mag. This group show will see numerous graffiti legends, designers, and other artists create site-specific versions of their dream cardboard homes. These just might prove to be the next big thing in the housing boom with works by Keo, Wane. One, JAES, Damon Johnson, Kim Piotrowski, Blue Baby Designs, and of course Skewville and plenty more.

The folksy German expression "nach Strich und Faden" means to do something thoroughly, with great artistry
and precision, or according to the rules of an art or craft. In contemporary language the term has gained
connotations of trickery, deceit and travesty: we have learned to distrust authenticity.
