I love old books and this one has been making me chuckle all week. It's a 1940s knitting pattern book I picked up from a local vintage shop in Worcester, and it's called 'Modern Knitting Illustrated' by Jane Koster and Margaret Murray (Odhams Press, 1940s). It's full of unintentionally hilarious photos and captions. Such as:
"Three smart girls, who know the value of comfort, choose to wear knitted jumpers at informal afternoon tea parties..."
ive developed a fascination with this certain style of painting...ive seen it in cape town and durban... harbour towns.. the stowaways from boats that travel from north and central africa, to south africa and then to europe leave these messages.
its a very undocumented and harsh journey that they go through and the places that you find their work is under railway bridges and hidden shelters... like them elusive and hard to find... see faith47 artist blog
Anthony Lister is working on a One Night Only show entitled 'No Win Switch' in Sydney, Australia opening on July 17th. No word yet as to where it is exactly but he sent over some new works that we'd love to share.
New Pictures from Urban Affairs arrived...a big thank you to Just / Just.Ekosystem.org.
Check the event, if you're in Berlin these days!
We'll keep you updated with new footage soon...

Check out more of his work at 72ironmen.blogspot.com.
David Shillinglaw will be opening his newest solo show, 'Knee-Jerk,' next Thursday, July 11th at the Nancy Victor Gallery in London. His work certainly has that feeling of a gut reaction put out in full color and he recently sent us over a whole slew of new works that are just a taste of what's in store at the show. Check it out.
Our good friend Victor Castillo is bringing his newest body of work to the Merrry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles for his first solo show there. Entitled 'Gameland' his newest works juxtapose juvenile innocence with sinister violence in his signature style that only continues to get richer in its ability to disturb and delight.
Lucas Ribeiro recently curated a strong three-person show in Porto Alegre, Brazil entitled '+Apto' (More Apt). Mateus Grimm, Diogenes DSM and Trampo were brought together to show their work in a temporary gallery space set up in the PUCRS MCT Museum of Science and Technology. The museum is hosting a year long show on Darwin and in connection with the exhibit they set up the temporary space to show the work of these three artists and their visions created around the theme of evolution. This includes a collective mural painted inside the museum that will continue evolving every month until the end of the year.
Eliot has been working as a man-of-many-trades as a 'rock' of the German hip hop movement since 1988. Friday, July 10th he's opening his solo show at ATM Gallery in Berlin. Pulling from his graffiti and comic book background he's made a set of embroidered canvases for the show and will also be showing some of his recent prints.
This Thursday, July 17th Gallery Nosco in London will open up 'The Summer Exhibition.' The show will only be up for two weeks which sounds about right for a Summer Exhibition in England. Sweat it out to works by Dran, Nicolas Ruston, Naomi Doran, Brusk, Ptolemy Elrington.
Last night Carmichael Gallery in Los Angeles opened both Eine's solo show 'The A-Z of Change' as well as Frerk and Marc C. Woehr's show in their project room. This is their first show in Los Angeles. They just sent us over a few images of their new works and we just had to share them with you. Both shows will remain up through July 30th so if you're in LA there's still time to check it out.

Art Friendly is a new effort combining high quality art prints and an environmental conscience. Of course our favorite part of this project is the No New Enemies Collection curated by our very own Harlan Levey. Great new works by Will Barras, Ephameron, and Ripo among others are now available and as with all Art Friendly prints for each print sold one tree will be planted (no bullshit). Check out the Art Friendly website and pick up some new artwork today.
For the 6th edition of the widely renowned yearly "Art Trek" expo, 14 young international artists present their illustrative works in an exciting collective exhibition from August 1 at Galerie Mekanik in Belgium...
This Saturday, July 18th Signal Gallery in London will be hosting Jaybo's (AKA Monk) solo show entitled 'Headscape: Tales From The Drifters'. He was one of the pioneers in Berlin's street and hip hop scene by simply having had his hand in every aspect of it for decades now (even preceding the fall of the Wall). He's gone from painting graffiti, being a street actor, hip-hop musician, starting the streetwear label 'Irie' as well as the magazing 'Style' to now focusing on his studio work finding influence from Francis Bacon to Mickey Mouse. This new show will be a great opportunity for anyone in London to check out his new work and understand more of where he's been and where he's going. Also take a moment to read a great interview with Jaybo from Whitehot Magazine here.
Tonight Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California in will be opening what looks to be a really nice group exhibition entitled 'Momentum' with original works from Tiffany Bozic, Chigi (also known as Neri), Ina Kyung Lim, Tessar Lo, Veronique Meignaud, and Brooks Salzwedel.
The other day I helped Chris print up his biggest lino print yet. It was a two man job just to manoeuvre the roll of paper into position over the two A2 sized lino blocks. We started with the finished lino blocks placed onto paper taped to the floor:
Kudzanai Chiurai is a young revolutionary Zimbabwean pop-artist who lives in South Africa.
Ive been following his work for some time...
Last week Kudzi opened his first show in Cape Town at the Goodman Gallery.
Entitled Dying to Be Men, Kudzi’s striking mixed media works are politically charged and carry with them a certain energy from the streets...
Heres is a link to some of his work from the show and his last project yellow lines... from faith47's blog
Kid Acne was recently asked to redesign a record sleeve as part of Beck's (the beer not the band) ‘Music Inspired Art' project. He chose Paul's Boutique and redrew it in his take on Stephen Wiltshire's style. So to clarify that's a visual remix not the audible kind, although surely that would interest the Kid as well. Read on for more pics and links.
Our good friend Kenor has just redone his entire website. Tons of work on concrete, metal, canvas, cardboard, glass and pretty much anything else that's gotten in his way in the past ten or so years that he's been putting in serious work in the streets of Barcelona. Check it out for yourself at www.elkenor.com.
